The Building Department is responsible for regulating building activities to ensure that residential and commercial structures comply with applicable building codes and city ordinances. It processes building permit applications and annual contractor license applications, and handles nuisance and code violations.
The Board of Review assists the Building Department by reviewing building ordinances and new contractor license applications, by reviewing complaints against contractors, by considering updates to the building codes, and by mediating disputes between contractors, citizens, and the Building Department. The Board of Review, appointed by the City Council, is comprised of seven volunteers from the local construction industry and they meet (tentatively) once each month.
