NOTICE OF UPCOMING VACANCY ON CITY COUNCIL
AND CALL FOR LETTERS OF INTEREST
Council member Jared Bowman has announced his resignation from the Ward 5 Council seat due to an upcoming relocation out of Colorado. The vacancy will be filled in accordance with Section 2-2-10, which provides as follows:
(d) Vacancies. In case of the death, resignation, vacation or removal for cause of any of the Trustees during their term of office, the City Council, by a majority vote of all remaining members thereof, may select and appoint, from among the duly qualified electors of the City, a suitable person to fill the vacancy. The person so appointed shall hold office until the next regular election and until his or her successor is elected and qualified. If the term of the person creating the vacancy was to extend beyond the next regular election, the person elected to fill the vacancy shall be elected for the unexpired term. Community members interested in being considered for appointment to fill the vacancy on City Council will have until July 13th, 2026 to submit a letter of interest via email to the City Clerk at cityclerk [at] cripple-creek.co.us (cityclerk[at]cripple-creek[dot]co[dot]us) or in person at City Hall, 337 Bennett Ave, Cripple Creek, CO. Only residents (1) who are registered voters and (2) have “resided” in Ward 5 for at least twelve consecutive months immediately prior to the date of appointment are eligible for appointment to fill the vacancy.
Applicants may include as much information as they feel is helpful, such as a professional resume or simply their name and address, along with a statement of why they are well-positioned to fill the vacancy.
Currently, it is anticipated that the City Council will hold applicant interviews on July 15th, at 4:00 p.m. in an open and public meeting with a final decision expected no later than the August 5th, 2026, regular meeting. The individual selected to fill the vacancy will serve the remainder of the term of office commencing at the regular meeting on August 5, 2026.
Sec 11-1-10 Business Owner/Resident Snow Removal Requirement
The owner, occupant, lessee or person in possession or control of any premises or
property shall maintain the sidewalks adjoining such premises or property, and shall
remove and clear away, or cause to be removed or cleared away, snow and ice from
sidewalks in all business districts within the City by four (4) business hours after the
cessation of any fall of snow, sleet or freezing rain or by the beginning hours of the next
business day following such fall, whichever period is shorter, and from all other
sidewalks in the City within twenty-four (24) hours of the cessation of any fall of snow,
sleet or freezing rain.
